Indian Railways Expands Capacity on 37 Premium Trains with 116 Extra Coaches from 6 December 2025

Due to a sharp rise in passenger demand caused by large-scale flight cancellations, Indian Railways has added 116 extra coaches to 37 premium trains, covering 114 additional trips across the country. These extra coaches have been introduced from 6 December 2025 to help manage the sudden increase in travellers.

Addition of Chair & Sleeper Class

The Railways has added both Chair Car and Sleeper Class coaches on routes that are witnessing heavy demand, especially in the southern region. Northern Railway has also strengthened its services by adding 3AC and Chair Car coaches on eight trains, improving availability on routes that see high passenger traffic.

Increased Capacity by Western Railways

Western Railway has increased capacity on four busy trains by adding 3AC and 2AC coaches. These changes, effective from December 6, aim to support strong passenger movement between western India and Delhi. Meanwhile, East Central Railway has added 2AC coaches to the Rajendra Nagar-New Delhi Express (12309) over five trips from December 6 to 10, easing travel for passengers between Bihar and the capital.

Addition of Two Coaches by East Coast Railway

East Coast Railway has added 2AC coaches to Bhubaneswar-New Delhi trains (20817/20811/20823) for five trips, improving long-distance travel between Odisha and Delhi. Eastern Railway has added Sleeper Class coaches on three important trains over six trips on December 7 and 8 to meet rising regional and cross-state travel needs.

Increase in Capacity by Northeast Frontier Railway

Northeast Frontier Railway has also increased capacity on two major trains by adding 3AC and Sleeper coaches across eight trips each from December 6 to 13, ensuring smoother travel for passengers in the Northeast.

Addition of Special Trains

Besides adding coaches, Indian Railways is running four special trains to further help travellers. These include the Gorakhpur-Anand Vihar-Gorakhpur Special (05591/05592) operating four trips from December 7 to 9, and the New Delhi-Martyr Captain Tushar Mahajan Vande Bharat Special (02439/02440) running on December 6 for quick travel to Jammu.

To support heavy demand on western routes, the New Delhi-Mumbai Central Superfast Special (04002/04001) will run on December 6 and 7. Moreover, the Hazrat Nizamuddin-Thiruvananthapuram Superfast Special (04080) will run one-way on December 6, offering long-distance connectivity to the south.
