Monsoon Arrives Early in Mumbai

According to the IMD, the monsoon has arrived in Mumbai two days ahead of its normal date of June 11. The weather department predicts heavy to very heavy rainfall with isolated extremely heavy rain over south Konkan, Goa, south Madhya Maharashtra, Coastal, and North Interior Karnataka on June 9 and 10.

Alerts Issued for Various Regions

The IMD has issued several alerts based on the expected rainfall intensity in different regions:
- Red Alert: Heavy rainfall in Sindhudurg.
- Orange Alert: Heavy rainfall in Ratnagiri.
- Yellow Alert: Heavy rainfall in Palghar, Thane, Mumbai, and Raigad.

There are chances of extremely heavy rainfall (more than 204mm in 24 hours) over coastal Karnataka, Konkan, and Madhya Maharashtra till Monday. Heavy showers are expected to continue over these regions throughout the week.

Impact on Daily Life

Due to the heavy showers, a part of the road in Palghar district of Maharashtra caved in, disrupting traffic on the busy Mumbai-Ahmedabad highway for more than four hours on Sunday morning. The IMD has put these areas under an 'orange' alert till Tuesday, as monsoon activity is likely to persist through the week.

What to Expect in the Coming Days

Residents in the affected areas should prepare for continuous heavy rain and potential disruptions to daily life. The IMD has advised caution and preparedness for heavy rainfall, especially in regions under red and orange alerts. Safety measures should be taken to avoid waterlogging and other rain-related issues.

With the early arrival of the monsoon and the IMD's warnings, it is crucial for people in Maharashtra, particularly in Mumbai, Konkan, and Pune, to stay informed and take necessary precautions. The heavy rainfall is expected to continue through the week, so residents should remain vigilant and stay safe.
