The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a forecast for heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in several regions, including Northwest India, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, and Konkan and Goa from 22 to 26 June. The Northwestern region encompasses areas such as Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, and parts of Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan.

In the Northeast, the IMD anticipates heavy to very heavy rainfall over the next three days. Following this period, isolated heavy rainfall is expected for four more days. Meanwhile, conditions are favourable for the Southwest monsoon to advance further into the remaining parts of the North Arabian Sea and regions like Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, West Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, and Jammu within two days.
Monsoon Progression
The monsoon has already progressed over Himachal Pradesh, Ladakh and Kashmir, Jammu, and Punjab. During this time frame, no significant changes in maximum temperatures are expected across the country. Additionally, heavy rain is predicted in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands on 22 June. Other affected areas include Gangetic West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, and Odisha from 22 to 27 June.
Kerala and coastal Karnataka are also set to experience heavy rainfall from 22 to 28 June. The interior of Karnataka will face similar conditions during this period. Strong surface winds with speeds reaching 40-60 kmph are likely in Karnataka's coastal areas as well as Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Rayalaseema, and Telangana between 22-26 June.
Fishermen Warnings
The weather department has issued warnings for fishermen planning to venture into certain sea areas. Alerts have been sounded for those heading towards the Arabian Sea area, including Gujarat coastlines, Konkan coasts, off Konkan coasts, Somalia, Oman, Yemen coasts from 22-27 June. In terms of Bay of Bengal activities, fishermen should avoid the north Andhra Pradesh coastlines along with Odisha-West Bengal coasts between 22-25 June, while the Andaman Sea remains risky from 22 until 26 June.
The IMD advises suspending all fishing operations throughout these periods due to adverse weather conditions. This precautionary measure aims at ensuring safety amidst potentially hazardous maritime environments caused by impending storms or high tides associated with monsoonal activity across affected regions.
