The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast moderate to heavy rainfall across various regions in India. On Thursday, the IMD issued warnings for heavy rain in parts of South India, including Tamil Nadu and Kerala. Additionally, rain alerts were announced for states such as Delhi, Odisha, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and parts of Uttar Pradesh.

In the national capital, light rains were observed on Independence Day with temperatures reaching 34 degrees Celsius. The IMD has issued a yellow alert for Delhi, indicating heavy showers expected on Friday. Similar alerts have been issued for Haryana and Chandigarh.
Heavy Rainfall Expected in Northwest India
Northwest India is also bracing for significant rainfall. The IMD predicts heavy showers over Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad and West Rajasthan until Saturday. Rainfall is also anticipated in Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, and Himachal Pradesh until August 21.
Meanwhile, Kerala continues to experience heavy rains. On Thursday, the IMD issued an orange alert for Kozhikode and Wayanad districts due to a cyclonic circulation over the Southeast Arabian Sea and South Kerala coast. This weather pattern is expected to bring heavy rainfall from August 15 to 19.
Rain Alerts Across West and Central India
In West and Central India, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh are likely to see heavy to very heavy rainfall throughout the week. Moving eastwards, states like West Bengal, Sikkim, Gangetic West Bengal, Bihar, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Jharkhand, Odisha, Assam, and Meghalaya are also expected to receive substantial rainfall.
The IMD has also issued yellow alerts for the remaining 12 districts of Kerala. An orange alert signifies very heavy rain ranging from 6 cm to 20 cm while a yellow alert indicates heavy rainfall between 6 cm to 11 cm. For Friday, orange alerts have been sounded in Pathanamthitta and Idukki districts.
South India's Weather Forecast
In South India, Tamil Nadu along with Puducherry and Karaikal are predicted to experience heavy downpour in the coming days. The IMD has warned against fishing activities in the coastal regions of Kerala - Lakshadweep - Karnataka from August 15 to 19 due to strong winds and adverse weather conditions.
The weather office's predictions highlight the need for preparedness across various regions facing potential flooding or disruptions due to intense rainfall. Residents are advised to stay updated with local weather reports and take necessary precautions during this period.
