The Kokapet trumpet in Hyderabad is set to open soon, enhancing traffic flow between key areas like Patancheru, Gachibowli, and Shamshabad. This new interchange on the Outer Ring Road (ORR) aims to provide seamless connectivity and controlled access for motorists. The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) has completed its construction at a cost of Rs 65 crore under the Strategic Road Development Plan (SRDP).

Located near Movie Towers, this flyover is part of the integrated development of Kokapet Layout, which spans 530 acres. It features two entry ramps and two exit ramps with a single trumpet design. The HMDA has constructed five exit lanes and three entry lanes from the ORR, each with varying radii of curvature. Eight toll booths will be operational—five for exits and three for entries.
Seamless Connectivity with Controlled Access
The Kokapet flyover's single trumpet design restricts access solely to the ORR, unlike the double trumpet at Ghatkesar, which facilitates smoother highway movement. This strategic decision aims to manage traffic effectively while ensuring efficient travel connections between major hubs. The flyover is located three kilometres from the existing Financial District interchange.
This new interchange will be the 22nd on Hyderabad's ORR. It follows the recent completion of interchanges at Narsingi and Mallampet, which were the 20th and 21st, respectively. The need for this infrastructure arises from significant traffic flow in these areas due to nearby residential and commercial developments.
Upcoming Inauguration
The HMDA plans to inaugurate the Kokapet flyover by the end of June 2025. VVS Appa Rao, HMDA Superintending Engineer, mentioned that this project is crucial for providing seamless connectivity for entry and exit towards Patancheru and Shamshabad. The flyover's unique architectural plan ensures uninterrupted travel connections between various key locations.
With its strategic location and design, the Kokapet trumpet flyover is expected to significantly ease traffic congestion in Hyderabad. As part of ongoing efforts to improve urban infrastructure, this development marks another step towards enhancing connectivity across major city hubs.
