Hyderabad to Build World’s Tallest Mahatma Gandhi Statue at Bapu Ghat

In Hyderabad, a remarkable plan is taking shape to build the world's tallest statue of Mahatma Gandhi at Bapu Ghat, as part of the Musi River rejuvenation project. This ambitious project, led by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, aims not only to honor Gandhi's legacy but also to create a symbol of peace, unity, and education. The vision for Bapu Ghat is to transform it into a place where people can reflect on Gandhi's teachings and promote the values of brotherhood and harmony.

Hyderabad World s Tallest Gandhi Statue

To prepare for this project, officials are studying famous statues of Mahatma Gandhi worldwide. Currently, the tallest Gandhi statue is the 72-foot bronze statue at Gandhi Maidan in Patna, created in 2013. Hyderabad is also home to a 22-foot bronze statue of Gandhi in a meditative pose, installed in 1999. This statue remains the largest in Telangana, but soon it may be joined by an even larger tribute to Gandhi.

The government is exploring different designs for the new statue, considering poses that reflect Gandhi in either a calm, meditative position or walking in motion. To ensure this important statue truly represents Gandhi's legacy, Chief Minister Reddy has invited ideas and suggestions from community leaders, intellectuals, and the public. This open approach shows that the statue will represent a shared vision of Gandhi's ideals.

The project doesn't stop at the statue alone. It is part of a larger plan to rejuvenate the Musi River, starting with cleaning the water by setting up sewage treatment plants, a project estimated to cost 7,000 crore. There are also plans to divert water from Gandipet to the Musi River and build a bridge-cum-barrage at Bapu Ghat. This first phase of the project will enhance the riverfront from Gandipet to Bapu Ghat, where the Musa and Esa rivers meet to form what will be called Gandhi Sarovar.

A significant part of this plan is to create a Gandhi Ashram at Bapu Ghat. This center will focus on education, offering courses in ethics, communication, and values inspired by Gandhi's teachings. The goal is to make Bapu Ghat a place of learning, where people can engage with Gandhi's message of peace and ethical living.

This monumental project is more than just a statue. It aims to honor Gandhi's memory, revive the Musi River, create a peaceful and educational space at Bapu Ghat, and promote values of unity and tranquility. Once completed, this initiative promises to become a landmark of cultural and spiritual importance, drawing visitors from around the world and reminding everyone of the values Gandhi held dear.
