Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL) is taking a big step to make walking safer and easier in the busy city. The metro authority has decided to build skywalks at every metro station. This plan will help reduce road congestion and allow people to move safely and quickly, especially in crowded areas. The skywalks will connect metro stations with important places nearby, making travel more convenient.

Making Hyderabad More Pedestrian-Friendly
The skywalks will change how people move around Hyderabad by creating safe walkways above the roads. These walkways will directly connect metro stations to important residential and commercial areas. This will make commuting easier and safer while reducing the risk of accidents. The project aims to make the city more pedestrian-friendly, as mentioned in a report by India Today.
Improving Safety and Urban Travel
NVS Reddy, the Managing Director of HMRL, spoke about how the skywalks will benefit people. He said that these walkways will improve safety for pedestrians and help metro users travel more smoothly. The skywalks will reduce road congestion and make daily travel easier.
Many skywalks are already under construction in different parts of Hyderabad. One of them is at Dr. Ambedkar Balanagar Metro Station, which will connect to Phoenix Landmark Mall. This will help both shoppers and commuters. Another skywalk is being built at LB Nagar Station to link it with Vasavi Anandanilayam, a residential complex with tall buildings. This will help many residents by providing a safe and direct way to reach the metro.
Expanding the Skywalk Network
Some skywalks are already in use at Punjagutta, Hitec City, and Irrum Manzil metro stations. These skywalks connect directly to nearby malls, making travel easier for metro users. HMRL now plans to build more skywalks at stations like Nagole, Stadium (Uppal), Durgam Cheruvu, and Kukatpally. The goal is to connect metro stations with important areas, helping people move around the city more easily.
Benefits of Skywalks for Hyderabad
The new skywalks will bring many advantages to the city. Pedestrians will be able to avoid crowded and dangerous streets, reducing the risk of accidents. The direct connections between metro stations and important places will also save time for travelers. Additionally, the skywalks will help Hyderabad become a smarter and better-planned city by improving urban mobility.
The decision to build skywalks at every metro station shows that Hyderabad is moving towards a more modern and pedestrian-friendly city. By making it easier and safer to walk, this project will improve public transport and city planning. The skywalks will not only help metro passengers but also make Hyderabad a more connected and well-organized city.
