Metro services in Hyderabad have been stepped up significantly as authorities respond to increased passenger demand caused by the ongoing strike by employees of Telangana State Road Transport Corporation. With buses off the roads or running at limited capacity, the metro has emerged as a key lifeline for daily commuters across the city.

According to the latest updates, Hyderabad Metro Rail has increased the frequency of trains on major corridors to manage the surge in ridership and reduce congestion during peak travel hours.
Revised Metro Frequency Across Key Corridors
On the busy Miyapur-LB Nagar corridor, trains typically operate every 3 minutes 40 seconds during peak hours and around 4 minutes 50 seconds during non-peak hours. However, services are currently being run at an improved frequency of approximately every 4 minutes 20 seconds throughout the day to maintain consistency and handle increased passenger flow.
Similarly, on the Nagole-Raidurg corridor, where trains usually run every 5 minutes 20 seconds, services have now been increased to approximately every 3 minutes 40 seconds, ensuring quicker turnaround and reduced waiting time for commuters.
These adjustments are aimed at streamlining movement across high-traffic routes, especially those connecting residential hubs with IT and commercial zones.
Possible Extension of Metro Timings
In a move aimed at further easing commuter difficulties, authorities are also considering extending metro services beyond 11:00 PM. While no official confirmation has been issued yet, the proposal is under active consideration based on passenger demand and operational feasibility.
If implemented, extended services could benefit late-night office-goers, airport travellers, and those affected by limited public transport options due to the ongoing strike.
Why Services Were Increased
The decision to ramp up metro frequency comes amid a noticeable spike in ridership following disruptions in bus services. With fewer RTC buses available, a large section of daily commuters has shifted to metro travel, leading to crowded platforms and longer queues during peak hours.
Traffic authorities and metro officials have coordinated to ensure smoother passenger movement, especially in high-density areas such as Ameerpet, Miyapur, LB Nagar, and Raidurg.
What Commuters Should Keep in Mind
Passengers are advised to:
- Plan travel during non-peak hours where possible
- Allow extra time for entry and ticketing at busy stations
- Follow station guidelines and announcements
- Use metro smart cards or digital payments to avoid delays
Current Situation
As of now, increased metro frequency remains in place across major corridors, with authorities continuing to monitor commuter demand. Any further changes, including late-night service extensions, are expected to be announced officially.
For Hyderabad residents, the metro continues to serve as a reliable and efficient alternative during the ongoing public transport disruption.
