Good news for Hyderabad residents-three new corridors under the Hyderabad Metro Rail Phase II (B) project have received administrative approval. This major expansion will improve public transport across the city and make commuting easier and faster for everyone. The new metro lines will cover a total distance of 86.1 kilometres and are expected to benefit thousands of daily passengers.

Joint Effort by Centre and State
The Telangana government and the Central government will work together on this project. Both will contribute equally to fund the construction. According to government sources, the total estimated cost of this metro expansion is Rs 19,579 crore.
Following the Centre's Joint Venture model, the funding will come from multiple sources. The Telangana government will give Rs 5,874 crore, and the Central government will provide Rs 3,524 crore. The project will also be supported by loans worth Rs 9,398 crore from financial institutions like JICA, ADB, and NDB. Additionally, Rs 783 crore will come through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model.
New Corridors to Boost City Connectivity
The project includes three important corridors:
RGI Airport to Future City (Skills University): 39.6 km
Jubilee Bus Station (JBS) to Medchal: 24.5 km
JBS to Shamirpet: 22 km
These new metro routes will improve transport access to key areas, including the international airport and major educational and skill development zones. This is especially helpful for working professionals, students, and travellers.
A Step Towards a Better Urban Life
With Hyderabad growing rapidly, traffic on roads has also increased. This metro expansion is expected to reduce traffic jams and provide a cleaner, greener alternative to road travel. It also supports sustainable development by encouraging the use of public transport over private vehicles.
The approval of Phase II (B) is a big step toward building a modern and efficient transport system in Hyderabad. Once completed, these new metro lines will improve the quality of life in the city by saving time, reducing pollution, and offering a safer way to travel.
This initiative shows the commitment of both the Telangana and Central governments to building better infrastructure and making urban travel smoother for everyone.
