Hyderabad-Chennai Bullet Train Has Undergone a Major Change in Route

The proposed Hyderabad-Chennai Bullet Train Corridor has undergone a major route change, according to the National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL). The revised alignment is expected to reduce the length of the project in Telangana and support the state government's future development plans.

Under the earlier proposal, the high-speed rail corridor was planned to start from Shamshabad and pass through Batasingaram, Narketpally, Suryapet, and Khammam before heading towards Chennai. However, after discussions with the Telangana government and ongoing surveys, the route has now been changed. The new alignment will run from Shamshabad through Future City, the proposed Dry Port, Halia, and Vadapalli. NHSRCL is currently conducting surveys along this revised route.
One of the biggest changes is the reduction in the corridor length within Telangana. The original route was expected to cover around 236 kilometres in the state and require nearly 790 hectares of land. With the new alignment, the length in Telangana has been reduced to about 123 kilometres.

Revised Plan of Hyderabad-Chennai Bullet Train Corridor

The revised plan includes four proposed bullet train stations in Telangana: Future City, Dry Port, Halia and Vadapalli. The Dry Port station is expected to strengthen logistics and cargo movement, while the other stations are expected to improve regional connectivity.

Shamshabad will remain the key hub for the project. The Operational Control Centre and the main maintenance depot for the high-speed rail network are also proposed to be located there. The station near Hyderabad airport may be connected through a monorail system to ensure easier access for passengers.

The Hyderabad-Chennai Bullet Train Corridor is one of the seven high-speed rail projects announced by the Union government and is expected to improve connectivity between Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu in the future.
