Kolkata commuters face gaps today, Tuesday, October 6. South Eastern Railway’s Chengail yard remodelling is the trigger. Cancellations hit the Howrah–Kharagpur corridor. Early‑morning locals 38703 and 38704 are off. Additional Midnapore–Howrah services are dropped. Some long‑distance expresses also face selective cancellations. The programme runs September 28 to October 11. Day‑specific lists cover suburban and express trains.
Expect the tightest squeeze before sunrise and mid‑morning eastbound. With 38703 gone, the 03:30 Howrah starter disappears. 38704 at 03:50 from Kharagpur is also cancelled. Mid‑morning slack rises because 38808 from Midnapore is cancelled. Surviving EMUs tend to bunch after 07:00. Platform crowd control tightens at Santragachi and Mecheda. Build buffer time and verify platforms early.

Howrah–Kharagpur commuter alternatives, NTES/139 checks and refunds
Use Santragachi and Mecheda as pivots during peak gaps. Santragachi–Mecheda shuttles can bridge toward Panskura and Kharagpur. When feasible, board MEMU or expresses stopping at those nodes. Verify stoppages, platforms and crowding on NTES or by dialing 139. For cancelled trains, e‑ticket refunds process automatically to the source account. Counter tickets get full refund within three days at PRS counters. Use unreserved general coaches only with valid tickets and class entitlement.
Works continue this week on the corridor. Friday, October 9, repeats key cancellations, including 38703 and 38704. 38707 and several Midnapore locals are also listed then. Recheck trains on Thursday night in NTES, and travel earlier where practical. Expect slower turnarounds as crews re‑sequence rakes near Chengail.
