enables households to generate their own electricity through the government's PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana.

Benefits of Muft Bijli Yojana Scheme for Bangalore Residents

This scheme is designed to make solar energy both affordable and practical for homes. By installing rooftop solar panels, consumers can reduce dependence on BESCOM and will no longer be affected by frequent power cuts. To encourage adoption, BESCOM is offering subsidies for domestic users under this initiative.

• For families consuming up to 100 units of electricity a month, which requires a 1 kW solar plant, the subsidy is ₹30,000. The cost of such a plant is between ₹60,000 and ₹80,000, but it can help save around ₹9,600 annually on power bills.

• Households using 101 to 200 units per month can opt for a 2 kW solar plant. Here, the subsidy rises to ₹60,000, with the plant costing ₹1.2 to ₹1.6 lakh, and the setup can bring annual savings of about ₹21,600.

• For larger consumers using 201 to 300 units monthly, a 3 kW solar plant is recommended. The subsidy offered is ₹78,000, while the installation cost ranges from ₹1.8 to ₹2.4 lakh, and households could save nearly ₹36,000 each year by opting for this.

By making an upfront investment and availing subsidies of 60% and an additional 40% depending on the system costs, Bengaluru residents can secure reliable electricity and safeguard themselves from frequent power cuts.
