Northern Railway has announced a large number of special train services to handle the increase in passenger travel around the Holi festival, helping people reach their hometowns and cities more easily during the busy holiday period. These trains began running from February 20 and will continue until the end of

March, covering several states and connecting key destinations from major stations in Delhi.
Special Trains to Run From These Places
Special trains are operating from New Delhi, Old Delhi, and Anand Vihar Terminal to many important places, especially in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Uttarakhand, and Maharashtra. Services from New Delhi include trains to Barauni, Gorakhpur, Lucknow, Varanasi, Khurda Road, and Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra. Some trains, such as those between Varanasi and New Delhi, are scheduled between February 22 and March 6. Other routes, including New Delhi-Howrah and Hazrat Nizamuddin-Pune, also have special runs during specific times in the festival period.
Old Delhi Station to See Large Crowds
Officials expect Old Delhi station to see a large number of outbound passengers, especially those heading to eastern and northern India. Meanwhile, Anand Vihar Terminal will run frequent services, including high-frequency specials to places like Laukaha Bazar and weekly trains to Danapur and Muzaffarpur.
Why were the Trains Introduced?
The main reason for introducing these special trains is to reduce crowding on regular trains and make travel smoother for migrant workers, students, and others returning home for Holi. Railway authorities have urged passengers to plan, book tickets through official channels, and arrive early at stations to avoid last-minute rush and delays.
Moreover, this plan by Northern Railway is part of wider efforts by Indian Railways to boost travel capacity during the Holi festive rush, making long-distance travel easier and less stressful for millions of people.
