With Diwali around the corner, the Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) is adding 155 extra buses to help manage the high demand for travel. This additional service, starting Tuesday, aims to make travel easier and more comfortable for everyone during the festive season. Tickets for these extra buses are already available online, giving travelers the chance to book seats in advance and avoid the rush.

The main routes that HRTC is focusing on are from Delhi to different destinations in Himachal Pradesh, which are especially crowded during Diwali. To meet the demand, HRTC is adding 60 more buses from Delhi on October 30. These buses will go to several key districts, including Palampur, Baijnath, Jogendranagar, Pathankot, and Dharamshala. For Dharamshala, both regular and luxury buses will be available, making travel more comfortable for passengers who wish to travel in style.
From Chandigarh, HRTC will run 70 additional buses on October 29 and 30, covering various destinations within Himachal Pradesh. On the first day, there will be two buses each to places like Chamba, Dharamshala, and other locations. On the second day, four extra buses are planned for Bilaspur, ensuring enough options for travelers heading home or visiting loved ones for the festival. In addition, the town of Baddi will see an extra 25 buses on both days, offering more convenience for passengers in that area as well.
These extra services from HRTC are scheduled to run outside of the regular bus schedules, which helps reduce the pressure on the usual routes. By providing more travel options, HRTC hopes to make Diwali travel smoother and safer for everyone.
In addition to expanding its bus services, HRTC recently revised its fare structure. This includes changes to both passenger and luggage charges, with some prices potentially doubling. Additionally, a recent political issue around a proposed "toilet tax" in Himachal Pradesh drew attention, leading to the Chief Minister addressing concerns raised by the BJP and clarifying the matter.
As Diwali nears, HRTC's decision to add 155 extra buses demonstrates its dedication to helping people reach their destinations and celebrate Diwali with their families. These efforts underline the essential role of public transportation in supporting festive gatherings and keeping people connected during this special time.
