Heavy rainfall has caused widespread disruption in Kerala, leading to significant waterlogging in areas like Thrissur and Kochi. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast intense rain across the state and issued multiple alerts based on severity.

A red alert has been declared for Thrissur, Ernakulam, and Idukki, where rainfall is expected to exceed 20 cm. Meanwhile, an orange alert has been issued for Kottayam, Alappuzha, Pathanamthitta, Palakkad, and Malappuram, with anticipated rainfall ranging between 12 cm and 20 cm. The rest of the state, including Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Kasaragod, Kannur, Kozhikode, and Wayanad, is under a yellow alert, signaling moderate rainfall between 7 cm and 11 cm.
Weather Alerts and Safety Advisory
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast continued heavy rainfall across Kerala for the next four days, with thunderstorms expected along the coastal regions through August 6. Coastal areas may also experience strong winds reaching up to 50 km/h, prompting authorities to issue a warning to fishermen to refrain from venturing into the sea during this period.
In Kochi's Petta area, severe waterlogging led to an incident where a car slipped into a drainage canal while attempting to pass through a flooded road. Fortunately, the driver escaped without injury. Recovery operations are currently underway to retrieve the submerged vehicle from the drain.
Community Response and Government Measures
Local residents in Kochi have expressed growing frustration over recurring waterlogging on the city's narrow roads. Despite repeatedly raising concerns with civic authorities, they claim that no meaningful action has been taken to resolve the issue.
With the adverse weather conditions continuing, government officials remain on high alert and are actively monitoring the situation. Citizens are advised to stay informed through official weather updates and follow necessary safety precautions during this period of intense rainfall.
