Gurugram Metro Rail Limited (GMRL) has requested about one acre of land for the first phase of the Gurugram Metro project to build metro pillars and other infrastructure along the stretch between Millennium City Centre and Sector 9 metro station, officials said. A meeting on this proposal was held on

Tuesday by the newly formed district land purchase committee, headed by the Gurugram deputy commissioner. During the meeting, the committee discussed acquiring land under the state government's recently introduced land purchase policy.
Land Acquisition to Complete Within 3 Months
Officials said no fixed timeline has been decided yet, but the land acquisition is expected to be completed within the next three months. Under the new policy, land will be purchased through direct negotiations with landowners instead of the traditional acquisition process.
Land Near Proposed Metro Depot in Sector 33
According to a senior GMRL official, the metro authority needs land near the proposed metro depot in Sector 33, close to Hero Honda Chowk, as well as in Basai village. Several existing structures fall within the planned metro route, including rooms, parts of houses, and some shops that will need to be removed or partially demolished to make way for construction. The official said that around 100 rooms near the Sector 33 depot area must be acquired. Moreover, three to four other structures will need partial demolition. All these details have been shared with the district land purchase committee, which has been asked to begin the land purchase process.
Extra Land Purchase
GMRL has also requested an additional land parcel measuring about 5.30 hectares at the Sector 33 depot. This land belongs to the Haryana Shahari Vikas Pradhikaran and is being sought on a rental basis so the metro contractor could carry out depot-related construction work.
Gurugram Metro Project Phase II
Meanwhile, preparations for the second phase of the Gurugram Metro project, which will run from Sector 9 to Cyber Hub, are also progressing. Officials said the consultant is finalising the tender documents, which are expected to be ready by the end of March. Work on the first phase is moving steadily, and the metro pillars between Millennium City Centre and Subash Chowk are likely to be completed by May.
