Gurugram Metro Network Expands with Two New Routes Approved by HMRTC

The Haryana Mass Rapid Transport Corporation (HMRTC) has approved two new Metro routes in Gurugram, which will greatly improve the city's Metro network. This development aims to connect heavily populated areas with major business hubs, as confirmed by officials on Sunday.

Gurugram Metro Network s Two New Routes

During the 57th HMRTC board meeting held in Chandigarh on August 6, chaired by Chief Secretary TVSN Prasad, these new routes were given the green light. The newly approved routes will link Bhondsi village to Gurugram railway station and Golf Course Extension Road to Sector 5.

Key Metro Route Expansions
The first proposed route is 17 kilometers long and will connect Bhondsi village to Gurugram railway station. This route will pass through key locations such as Vatika Chowk, Subash Chowk, Rajiv Chowk, Sadar Bazar, and the Gurugram bus stand. The route will primarily follow Sohna Road and will intersect with the Delhi-Gurugram-Alwar RRTS line at Rajiv Chowk.

The second route, 13 kilometers in length, will connect Golf Course Extension Road to Sector 5. Major stops along this route include Millennium City Centre Metro station, Signature Tower crossing, Rana Pratap Chowk, and Atul Kataria Chowk. This route will run along Sheetla Mata Road.

Future Metro Network Plans
Yash Sachdeva, the adviser (mobility) at the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA), mentioned that these routes are part of a larger plan to develop a comprehensive Metro network across Gurugram by 2031. "These two routes will cover the most densely populated areas of the city, along with key business districts," he said.

Sachdeva also noted that once these routes are operational, they will connect a large number of people and integrate with the RRTS network along the national highway as well as with ongoing Gurugram Metro extension projects.

Consultants and Project Reports
A senior HMRTC official mentioned that consultants will soon be hired to prepare detailed project reports for both routes. "HMRTC will soon bring in consultants to create detailed project reports for the two routes," said the official, who wished to remain anonymous.

The official also highlighted that the Bhondsi village to Gurugram railway station route will connect with the already approved Metro extension from Millennium City Centre Metro station at the railway station.

Gurugram Metro Rail Limited's Role
Last year, Gurugram Metro Rail Limited (GMRL) was established as a special purpose vehicle to execute a 28.5-kilometer Metro extension project from Millennium City Centre to Cyber Hub. A senior GMRL official shared that geo-technical surveys are almost complete and that they are now in the process of hiring design and general consultants to move forward with the project.

This expansion is set to integrate significant parts of Gurugram into a unified Metro network, greatly improving connectivity across various sectors of the city.
