Gurugram Metro Rail Limited (GMRL) has taken an important step in expanding the Old Gurugram Metro by identifying land for its second phase. On Friday, officials said that GMRL has asked the Haryana Shahari Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP) to share details about the ownership of the land required for building new metro stations.

Gurugram Metro Extension Project
GMRL is responsible for carrying out the Gurugram Metro extension project, which is planned in three phases. The first phase will connect Millennium City Centre to Sector 9. The second phase will run from Sector 9 to Cyber Hub. In the third phase, a metro depot will be developed in Sector 33 to support metro operations.
Gurugram Metro Stations
For the construction of nine metro stations, GMRL has identified land in several areas, including Sector 7, Sector 4, Sector 5, Ashok Vihar, Sector 3, Bajghera, Palam Vihar Extension, Palam Vihar, and Sector 23A. Officials said most of these stations will be built in the middle of the road, while the entry and exit gates will be located on nearby land beside the stations.
According to GMRL, some of the identified land falls under green spaces, while some is privately owned. Therefore, the metro authority has requested land ownership details from HSVP to move ahead with the project. As per a GMRL note dated December 30, if the land belongs to private owners, a committee led by the district collector will hold talks with them to purchase the land. If an agreement is reached, landowners will receive the approved amount along with an extra 25 percent. If no agreement is possible, land will be acquired under the Land Acquisition Act, 2013, following the new purchase policy for the Gurugram Metro.
Gurugram Metro to Connect Old Metro to Railway Station
GMRL also plans to connect the Old Gurugram Metro to the railway station from Sector 5 through a two-kilometre route. Though earlier planned under a different metro project, this link is now part of the Old Gurugram Metro plan. Meanwhile, GMRL has prepared a cost estimate of about ₹409 crore for building the metro depot in Sector 33 on nearly 45 acres of land. Officials said the tender for phase two is in the final stage and is expected to be issued by March.
