The Gujarat government has introduced a ₹3.70 lakh crore budget for the fiscal year 2025-26, with a strong focus on infrastructure development. Finance Minister Kanu Desai announced that a significant part of the budget is dedicated to the construction of two major expressways - the Namoshakti Expressway and the Somnath-Dwarka Expressway. These projects aim to improve road connectivity, reduce traffic congestion, and boost trade and tourism across Gujarat.

Namoshakti Expressway
The Namoshakti Expressway will provide a direct route from Banaskantha in North Gujarat to the Saurashtra coast, covering Deesa to Pipavav. This road will reduce traffic jams and make transportation faster and smoother. The expressway will also help local businesses and industries by improving the movement of goods and people.
Somnath-Dwarka Expressway: Connecting Religious Destinations
The Somnath-Dwarka Expressway will link Ahmedabad, Rajkot, Somnath, Dwarka, and Porbandar, making travel to important religious and tourist sites much easier. The expressway is expected to increase the number of visitors to these places, helping the local economy and tourism sector grow.
Garvi Gujarat High-Speed Corridor
To further improve transportation, the government has launched the Garvi Gujarat High-Speed Corridor project, which will introduce 12 high-speed corridors. These corridors will reduce travel time, improve road safety, and support Gujarat's growing economy.
Investment in Tourism and Air Connectivity
The budget also includes ₹6,500 crore for tourism and connectivity projects, such as the Ambaji Corridor and the Dharoi Project. Additionally, ₹45 crore has been allocated for a new Greenfield Airport in Dahod, which will enhance air travel for smaller cities.
These new expressways and high-speed corridors are set to transform Gujarat's infrastructure, making travel more convenient and boosting the state's economy.
