The Gorakhpur Link Expressway, a major infrastructure project connecting Gorakhpur to the Purvanchal Expressway, is now in its final stage. Local officials have announced that the expressway will be ready by May 15. This update came after a recent inspection by Commissioner Anil Dhingra and District Magistrate Krishna Karunesh at Kamhariya Ghat across the Ghaghra River. Their visit showed that work is moving quickly and is on track to meet the deadline.

Officials Push for Fast Completion
During the inspection, the officials told the construction teams to finish all remaining work within the next 15 to 20 days. Special attention is being given to the completion of bridges and roads. Commissioner Dhingra said that even though work on diverting the river will continue, the main construction work must be finished first to allow the expressway to open on time, most likely by the end of May.
To make sure the work goes smoothly, different departments are working together to remove any problems that may slow things down. Commissioner Dhingra also stressed the need to maintain good quality in the construction and warned that anyone responsible for delays will be held accountable. The inspection also included UPDA's Managing Director Sanjay Agarwal and Setu Nigam's Project Manager AK Singh, showing how important the project is.
Big Inauguration Event Being Planned
The opening of the Gorakhpur Link Expressway is expected to be a big event. The ceremony will likely take place at the point where Gorakhpur and Azamgarh meet. High-profile leaders like Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari, and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath may attend. Recently, Chief Minister Adityanath hinted during an event in Gorakhpur that the expressway would be opened soon and promised a grand launch.
Project Details and Benefits
The Gorakhpur Link Expressway is 91.35 km long and has been built at a cost of Rs 7,283 crore. It starts from Jaitpur near Sahjanwan and ends at Salarpur in Azamgarh, where it connects to the Purvanchal Expressway. Even before its official opening, some vehicles have started using it. It has already helped reduce the travel time to Lucknow to around 3.5 to 4 hours, even though the route is slightly longer than the usual path via Gorakhpur and Ayodhya.
The nearing completion of the Gorakhpur Link Expressway marks a major step forward in improving road connectivity in the region. With improved transport, better access, and faster travel times, this expressway is expected to boost local development and bring long-term benefits to eastern Uttar Pradesh.
