Important information for Indian travelers who intend to visit Germany for tourism. Some of the requirements for obtaining a visa have been loosened for Indian tourists. According to the staff at the German embassies in India, Indian citizens can now schedule a visa appointment at any of the country's major cities' VFS Global Visa Application Centres.

A statement from the German Missions in India states that "Regardless of where you live, appointments can be scheduled and applications for Schengen visas can be submitted at any of the Visa Application Centres managed by VFS Global throughout India. Please feel free to check for open appointment slots in one of the other major Indian cities if the Application Centre closest to your hometown is already completely booked".

German Schengen Visa

Three months before your intended departure date, you can apply for a Schengen visa. However, the D-visa category is exempt from this modification which includes student, employment & family get-together/reunion visas among others. Travelers with a Schengen visa may legally stay in any Schengen member state for up to 90 days within any 180 days.

Austria, Czech Republic, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Estonia, France, Greece, Germany, Hungary, Iceland, Latvia, Italy, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Lithuania, Malta, Norway, Netherlands, Poland, Slovakia, Portugal, Slovenia, Sweden, Spain, & Switzerland are the 26 member states that make up the Schengen region.

The Indian visitor arrivals to Germany increased by 214% year over a year earlier this year, according to the German National Tourist Office (GNTO). According to the report, Germany hosted 9% of Indian tourists who traveled to Europe, with 55% of them going there for a leisure trip and 38% for business.

A German Schengen Visa cost:

You will need to pay 80 euros for adults & 40 euros for children to obtain a German Schengen visa. Children under the age of six are not required to pay the visa fee.
