Ganga Aarti in Varanasi Suspended Due to Huge Crowds Until...

Varanasi, one of India's holiest cities, has seen a massive increase in the number of devotees, leading authorities to temporarily stop the famous Ganga Aarti at several ghats. This decision, effective until February 5, has been taken to manage the heavy crowds and ensure public safety.

Ganga Aarti in Varanasi Suspended

The suspension affects important ghats like Dashashwamedh, Sheetla, and Assi, where the daily Ganga Aarti attracts thousands of visitors and devotees. Police Commissioner Mohit Agarwal has requested the people of Varanasi to avoid going out unless necessary and to help in managing the large number of pilgrims.

Crowds Disrupt Transportation

The sudden increase in devotees has also affected transportation, especially at Varanasi Cantt and Banaras railway stations. Many pilgrims returning from the Prayagraj Maha Kumbh have been left stranded due to overcrowding and canceled trains.

Pilgrims like Bobby Maya Limbu from Assam and Dinanath from Gaya district shared their struggles. Limbu, who came for a holy dip at Sangam Ghat, and Dinanath, who wanted to return home, were unable to board their trains due to the rush.

Temporary Shelters for Stranded Devotees

To help those who are stuck, night shelters near the railway stations have been opened. Rajat Singh, a manager at one of the shelters, said that while they provide a place to rest, food is not available. Meanwhile, Cantt Assistant Commissioner of Police Vidush Saxena reported that the number of devotees has increased significantly since Mauni Amavasya. Security forces are patrolling the railway stations continuously to control the situation.

Authorities Advise Postponing Trips

Ganga Seva Nidhi President Sushant Mishra confirmed that the Ganga Aarti at Dashashwamedh Ghat will remain suspended until February 5. Authorities have also advised people to postpone their travel to Varanasi for a few days to avoid inconvenience.

The situation is being closely monitored, and officials hope that normalcy will return soon. After February 5, the famous Ganga Aarti is expected to resume as usual, allowing devotees to once again experience the spiritual ceremony.
