India's 42nd Vande Bharat Express will run with 20 coaches for a special period starting from January 26, 2026, to meet growing passenger demand. This upgrade increases the seating capacity and aims to give travelers more comfort and convenience on a busy route. The train, which Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged

off on March 12, 2024, runs between Ahmedabad and Mumbai Central. It is managed and operated by the Western Railway zone.
Addition of Four AC Chair Coaches
Usually, this Vande Bharat Express operates with 16 coaches, but for the period from January 26 to March 7, 2026, four additional AC chair car coaches will be attached. This will add space for 278 more passengers, helping people travel more comfortably between the two cities. The train will still stop at its regular stations: Vadodara, Surat, Vapi, and Borivali along the way.
Total Journey to Cover
The total distance covered by this route is about 491 kilometers, and the journey takes nearly five hours and forty minutes. The service runs daily except on Sundays, making it a popular choice for business and leisure travelers on the busy western corridor.
By running the Vande Bharat Express with more coaches temporarily during the peak travel season, Indian Railways hopes to provide more seats, better service, and improved travel comfort for passengers heading between Ahmedabad and Mumbai.
