After almost three years of peace from the pandemic, Covid-19 has made a return globally and in India. In Bengaluru, the virus has claimed its first life of 2025, reminding people of the dangers it once brought to the world. The Karnataka Health Department has now stepped in with new guidelines to prevent its further spread.

First Covid Death in Bengaluru in 2025
An 84-year-old man from Bengaluru has died due to Covid-19. He was suffering from several health problems and showed symptoms of the infection before being tested. He was admitted to a well-known private hospital in Whitefield on May 13. Sadly, he passed away on May 17. His Covid-19 test results came back positive on Saturday, confirming the cause of death.
This is the first Covid-related death in the city in 2025. His passing has raised concern among citizens, especially the elderly and those with other health conditions.
New Guidelines from the Health Department
In response to the rising number of Covid-19 cases, the Karnataka Health Department has released fresh guidelines. These include advice for elderly people, children, and those with weak immunity to wear masks in crowded places. The department is also asking everyone to follow basic hygiene rules like washing hands regularly.
The department is especially focused on stopping the spread of the GN1 variant, which is the new form of Covid-19 found in these recent cases.
Covid Cases Rising Again
The pandemic, which first started in 2019, caused huge losses around the world. In Karnataka alone, many people lost their lives in the first three years. After that, weaker versions of the virus appeared, giving people hope that the worst was over.
However, Covid-19 has now returned. According to the Health Department, there are 38 active cases in Karnataka, and 32 of them are in Bengaluru. The sudden rise in cases is worrying both the public and health officials, as it brings back memories of the early, difficult days of the pandemic.
Public Asked to Stay Alert
The death of the elderly man has made people realise that the virus is still dangerous, especially for those with poor health. The state government is now taking steps to stop the virus from spreading again. While the number of cases in 2024 was low, the new wave in 2025 has created serious concern.
With the GN1 variant spreading and cases rising, the government's rules and the public's cooperation will play a key role in fighting the virus once more.
