manufacturing unit in New Thippasandra. Engineers are giving the train its finishing touches before it is dispatched to the Pink Line depot located at Kothanur on Bannerghatta Road. Once it reaches the depot, further testing and checks will be carried out.

Namma Metro's Elevated Stretch

Namma Metro is planning to open the 7.5-kilometre elevated stretch of the Pink Line between Kalena Agrahara and Tavarekere in May. For the initial phase of operations, the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) intends to run around five to six trains on this section to ensure smooth and frequent services for passengers.

Prototype Driverless Trains & BMRCL's Take

Earlier, the prototype driverless train for the Pink Line was rolled out on December 11. Since then, it has been undergoing trial runs on the Pink Line track. These trial runs are being conducted to test the train's performance, safety systems, and compatibility with the metro infrastructure.

BMRCL is working towards completing all required tests and obtaining statutory approvals for the new driverless rolling stock before the planned opening in May. Officials want to ensure that all safety standards are met and that the trains are fully ready for passenger service.

How Will this Benefit Passengers?

The introduction of driverless trains on the Pink Line marks a major step forward for Namma Metro, as it will improve efficiency, reduce dependence on manual operations, and offer a smoother travel experience. Once operational, the Pink Line is expected to significantly improve connectivity in the southern parts of Bengaluru and provide a modern, reliable public transport option for daily commuters.
