Final Stretch of Mumbai-Nagpur Samruddhi Expressway to Open on Maharashtra Day

The long journey of building one of Maharashtra's most important roads is finally coming to an end. The last stretch of the Mumbai-Nagpur Samruddhi Expressway, a 76 km section from Igatpuri to Amane, is expected to be inaugurated on Maharashtra Day, May 1. This is a major achievement for the state and could also include the opening of the south-bound carriageway of the Thane Creek Bridge on the same day.

Improved Connectivity Across the State

Anil Gaikwad, the Managing Director of the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC), confirmed that both projects are completely ready. Once they are open, the road connections to Navi Mumbai, Pune, and the upcoming Navi Mumbai International Airport will become much better. These new roads will help people travel faster and more safely.

Completion of a Grand Project

With the Igatpuri to Amane stretch opening soon, the entire 701 km long Samruddhi Mahamarg will finally be complete. This huge project was first started by former Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. The work has been carried out in phases over the past few years.

The first part of the expressway, from Nagpur to Shirdi, was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in December 2022. Then, in May 2023, the section from Shirdi to Bharvir in Nashik was opened by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. Later, in March 2024, the Bharvir to Igatpuri stretch was made available by MSRDC Minister Dada Bhuse. Each phase has brought the project closer to completion.

Why the Expressway Matters

Officials say the Samruddhi Expressway will not only reduce travel time but also help the economy grow in the areas it connects. It is expected to support smoother travel between major cities and boost trade and tourism. The expressway also makes it easier to reach the Navi Mumbai International Airport, which is still under construction. This shows how the road will play a big role in Maharashtra's future.

Possibility of PM's Visit

There are talks that Prime Minister Narendra Modi may be invited again to inaugurate this final part of the expressway. He is already expected to visit Mumbai on May 1 for the World Audio Visual and Entertainment Summit at the Bandra Kurla Complex. The state might take this chance to host both events together.

The opening of the last part of the Mumbai-Nagpur Samruddhi Expressway is a big step forward for Maharashtra. It marks the end of a major project that took years of planning and work. The road promises better travel, stronger trade links, and new opportunities for development across the region.
