It has launched festival special trains to Bihar to enhance accessibility and unleash its tourism potential.
Indian Railways Introduces 150 Festival Special Trains to Bihar
Since numerous tourists from major cities like Delhi, Chandigarh, and Ajmer plan to travel to Bihar during weekends or festivals, Indian Railways has announced a daily Festival special train known as the Hazrat-Nizamuddin-Patna AC Superfast train serving the Delhi-Patna route from 21 September to 29 November 2025. A total of 150 festival special trains, operated by Indian Railways, are aiming to cover 2024 trips from 21 September to 30 November 2025. It will ease travel across India with an emphasis on the routes to Bihar by connecting its major cities like Patna, Gaya, Darbhanga, and Muzaffarpur. As Bihar falls under the Eastern Central Railway Zone, this zone is planning to operate 14 trains covering 588 trips during this time.
New Amrit Bharat train routes are introduced, and a new Vande Bharat Express train is aiming to improve its travel facilities during this festival season. Additionally, the Eastern Railway Zone, Western Railway Zone, and Southern Railway Zone are planning to operate special trains by introducing new routes to connect metro cities Kolkata, Mumbai, and Chennai.

• New Delhi-Hasanpur Road Festival Special (1 Oct-29 Nov)
• Chandigarh-Patna Festival Special (25 Sept-27 Nov, weekly on Thursday)
• Durg-Patna Festival Special (19 Oct)
• Gondia-Patna Festival Special (23-24 Oct)
Moreover, Indian Railways is operating more than 12000 festival special trains across Bihar and its neighbouring states for the upcoming festivals such as Diwali, Durga Puja, and Chhath Puja to meet tourist expectations. It is a phenomenal move on the part of the Bihar government and the Indian Railways to promote the rich culture and traditions of Bihar through the festival trains.
