Good news for car, jeep, and van owners in India. The central government has announced a new FASTag-based Annual Pass that will make highway travel smoother and more convenient. Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, shared that this new system will start from August 15, 2025. It is designed only for private (non-commercial) vehicles and will cost Rs 3,000 per year.

The goal of this new system is to reduce long waits at toll booths and to make highway travel simpler and more affordable for people who travel often.
How the FASTag Annual Pass Works
The pass can be activated or renewed using the Rajmarg Yatra mobile app or by visiting the official websites of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) or the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH).
Once activated, the pass is valid for one year or for 200 trips-whichever comes first. This makes it a good option for daily or regular highway users, especially those living near National Highways.
Benefits for Daily Travelers
One of the biggest advantages of the Annual Pass is that vehicles will no longer need to stop at toll plazas located within a 60-kilometre stretch. This helps drivers avoid traffic jams, saves time, and reduces the stress of long queues at toll gates. It also helps prevent disputes over toll fees.
The pass is valid across all National Highways in the country, offering great value to people who travel frequently for work, family, or other reasons.
Helping India Move Faster
This move is part of a larger plan to improve road travel and reduce the load at toll booths. By using digital tools like the FASTag pass, the government is making everyday travel easier and more efficient.
