Indian Railways is preparing for the busy travel period during the 2026 Holi festival by running many extra trains so people can travel home comfortably and safely. To deal with the large number of passengers expected, the railway has announced 1,244 Holi Special train trips that will run across the

country from February 25 to March 18, 2026. If more people want to travel, this number could go up to about 1,500 trips. Different Railway zones have planned Holi Special trains. For instance, East Central Railway will operate the largest number of Holi services, while Northern Railway, Western Railway, South Eastern Railway, and others will also add many trips to handle the festival crowd.
Special Trains to Connect Major Cities
These special trains will connect major cities, state capitals, and important regional towns. The goal is to reduce overcrowding on regular trains and make sure more travellers get confirmed seats and berths for their journeys. The services cover many long-distance routes. For example, trains will run between western cities like Mumbai, Pune, and Nagpur and destinations in the north and east, such as Danapur, Gorakhpur, Saharsa, and Hazrat Nizamuddin. Eastern and northern routes will link places like Howrah, Sealdah, Kolkata, and Malda Town with Raxaul, Gorakhpur, and Anand Vihar Terminal.
Holi Special Trains to Run in South
In the south, special trains will run from Chennai, Ernakulam, Thiruvananthapuram, and Coimbatore to northern and eastern cities, while western India locations such as Ahmedabad and Vadodara will also have extra connections heading toward Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh.
Moreover, these arrangements aim to make travel during the Holi season smoother, safer, and more convenient for hundreds of thousands of people across India celebrating the festival and heading home to their families.
