Kerala's tableau at the Republic Day parade on Kartavya Path on Monday showcased two major achievements of the state, India's first Water Metro and the milestone of achieving 100 per cent digital literacy, according to a PTI report. The tableau presented a strong message of inclusive growth and self-reliance, showing
how Kerala is moving towards an Aatmanirbhar Kerala while also contributing to an Aatmanirbhar Bharat.
Digital Literacy in Kerala's Water Metro
Set in a rural background, the tableau featured a woman shown as the ambassador of digital literacy. She represented how digital education has reached people at the grassroots level. Through a social media page focused on traditional cooking, she showed how access to technology helps individuals become self-reliant, start small businesses, and reach a wider audience beyond their local communities.
Key Highlight of Digital Connectivity
The scene was surrounded by Kerala's well-known agricultural products: coconut, jackfruit, banana, pepper, and ginger. These elements symbolised a rich rural life that is becoming stronger with the support of digital connectivity. Another key highlight of the tableau was a life-sized model of a Water Metro boat along with its terminal. This represented eco-friendly and inclusive transport. The Water Metro project connects the islands in the backwaters of Kochi and provides safe, affordable, and sustainable travel options for people from all sections of society.
The tableau also showed people from different backgrounds travelling on the Water Metro, including members of the Haritha Karma Sena, Kerala's "green army," which works for waste management and environmental protection. Folk dancers performing on either side of the tableau added colour, energy, and cultural richness, reflecting Kerala's strong traditions.
Moreover, the tableau beautifully combined tradition and modern ideas. It highlighted digital inclusion, women's empowerment, environmental care, and green transport. The presentation explained how technology and sustainable mobility have become key to Kerala's development, strengthening communities across villages, islands, and cities, and supporting the vision of a self-reliant India.
