Delhi's Sarita Vihar Flyover Under Repair: What Commuters Need To Know

Delhi's Sarita Vihar flyover will undergo vital repairs, including expansion joint replacement. Delays have arisen from various factors, including elections and pollution. Traffic disruptions are anticipated as the project commences.

Delhi's Sarita Vihar flyover, a crucial infrastructure completed by the Delhi Development Authority, is set for significant repairs, including the replacement of all seven expansion joints, bearing maintenance, and surface repairs. Approved by former PWD Minister Manish Sisodia in April 2022, the project has encountered numerous delays due to a variety of reasons, including environmental and political factors. The repair work, vital for the longevity and safety of the flyover, was initially disrupted by the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, delayed traffic permissions, the Kanwar Yatra in July, and monsoon-related flooding in August.

Following the postponement due to the spike in pollution levels post-Diwali 2024, the Public Works Department (PWD) plans to resume work on the Ashram-Badarpur lane of the Sarita Vihar flyover. Initially started on October 3, the project is organized into four phases. The first two phases focused on the Ashram-Badarpur lane and were completed in two 15-day stretches. The ongoing work aims to replace the remaining expansion joints on both lanes, ensuring the flyover's structural integrity and safety for daily commuters.

Delhi residents should brace for increased traffic jams as the PWD's upcoming efforts to refurbish the Sarita Vihar flyover get underway. The Traffic Department hints that the work on the Badarpur-Ashram lane could kick off as early as next week. Despite measures by the Delhi Traffic Police, including the creation of entry and exit points at both ends of the flyover to alleviate disruptions, commuters from Noida and Faridabad into southeast Delhi and Badarpur may face congestion, especially during rush hours.

Adding to the complexity of the repair project is the Sarita Vihar underpass, known for its susceptibility to flooding. The fluctuating pollution levels in Delhi further complicate scheduling for the next phases of the repair. Officials remain in continuous discussion to find the most suitable timeline to progress with the necessary work, hoping to minimize inconvenience to the public while addressing the essential maintenance needs of the flyover.

To conclude, the Sarita Vihar flyover repair work is a critical project for Delhi, addressing structural concerns and aiming to improve the daily commute for thousands. Despite the challenges and delays encountered, the completion of this project will not only ensure the flyover's stability but also contribute to smoother traffic flow in one of the city's key areas.
