A day after the unfortunate stampede at New Delhi railway station, Northern Railway has taken several steps to prevent such incidents in the future. To manage the heavy rush of passengers traveling to Prayagraj for Mahakumbh, special trains will now depart from platform 16 as much as possible. Passengers are advised to use the Ajmeri Gate side for entry and exit. Regular trains will continue to operate from their usual platforms.

To ensure passenger safety and smooth operations, additional Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Government Railway Police (GRP) personnel have been deployed at the station. These officials are guiding travelers to their respective platforms and helping manage the rush, especially during peak hours.
Special Trains for Devotees
To accommodate the large number of passengers, Indian Railways has arranged multiple special trains. By 7 PM today, four special trains had already departed, including one to Darbhanga via Prayagraj and two direct trains to Prayagraj. Another special train is set to leave at 9 PM to handle evening-hour demand. Tomorrow, February 17, five more special trains will be operated for Mahakumbh devotees.
Appeal to Passengers
Indian Railways has urged travelers to remain calm and avoid falling for false information. Passengers should not switch platforms based on rumors and must follow official announcements for smooth boarding. Cooperation from the public will help railway authorities run both regular and special trains efficiently.
Helpline and Passenger Assistance
Railways helpline number 139 remains active to assist travelers during the ongoing rush. So far, over 130 calls have been received regarding yesterday's incident. Railway personnel have also supported the families of the 18 deceased, accompanying them home and attending their final rites.
Indian Railways has provided financial assistance to the victims' families. The kin of the deceased have been given ₹10 lakh each, while grievously injured passengers received ₹2.5 lakh. Those with minor injuries have been compensated with ₹1 lakh.
A two-member high-level committee has started an investigation into the incident. The committee includes senior railway officers Shri Pankaj Gangwar and Shri Nar Singh, who will examine the cause of the tragedy and suggest preventive measures.
