Delhi Rain Alert: Delhi to Experience Rainfall, Thunderstorms, and Lightning from 28 May

Delhi and many parts of North India are experiencing an intense heatwave, with temperatures exceeding 45 degrees Celsius in several areas. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued warnings for Delhi-NCR, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and nearby states due to extremely hot weather. However, some relief from the heat is expected soon. According to IMD, a fresh western disturbance is becoming active from May 28, which may bring rain, thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds to Delhi and nearby regions. Light rain and dust storms are likely in many areas, especially during evening and night hours. Weather activity may increase further from May 30 and continue into the first week of June.

Changing Weather Impacts

The changing weather is expected to lower temperatures by around 2 to 3 degrees Celsius. Residents of Delhi, Noida, Gurugram, and Ghaziabad may finally get relief after several days of severe heatwave conditions. The IMD has also warned that gusty winds and thunderstorms could temporarily disrupt traffic and daily activities.
Many other states, including Bihar, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and parts of Maharashtra, are also likely to receive rain and thunderstorms. Some places may experience strong winds reaching 60 to 70 kmph along with lightning and hailstorms.

Although the rainfall will bring comfort from the scorching summer heat, authorities have cautioned that sudden storms and strong winds may still create problems in some areas. Overall, North India is expected to see a major change in weather over the coming days, bringing cooler temperatures and much-needed relief from the heatwave.

Advisory for Residents

The weather department has asked people to remain alert during thunderstorms and avoid standing near trees, electric poles, or weak structures. Travellers and commuters are also advised to check weather updates before leaving home.
