Delhi residents are likely to get a break from the intense summer heat after the heavy rain that lashed the city on Thursday afternoon. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), weather conditions will remain pleasant as weather systems continue to bring rain, thunderstorms, and cooler temperatures across the national capital.

Delhi Rain Alert
Light to moderate rain, accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds, is expected during the morning. Maximum temperatures are likely to stay between 36°C and 38°C, while minimum temperatures may range from 23°C to 25°C. Wind speeds during thunderstorms can reach 40-50 kmph, with occasional gusts up to 60 kmph. The wind direction is also expected to change during the day. Winds will initially blow from the southwest in the morning, shift to the northwest around midday, and later turn northeast by night.
The city may receive another spell of light rain during the evening, although it is expected to be less intense than the morning showers. Cloudy skies are likely to continue throughout the day, with isolated light rainfall, thunderstorms, and lightning possible in some areas until night. These conditions should help keep temperatures comfortable, reducing any immediate risk of a heat wave.
Delhi is Affected by a Western Disturbance
The IMD said that a western disturbance is affecting the region, leading to cloudy skies, rain showers, and strong winds throughout the day. These weather changes are expected to lower temperatures and provide relief from the recent hot conditions. However, authorities have also warned that thunderstorms and strong winds could cause temporary disruptions, especially during busy commuting hours.
The current weather pattern is being caused by an active western disturbance interacting with moisture-rich winds over northern India. This system, which originated in the Mediterranean region, is bringing stormy and wet weather to Delhi-NCR. The IMD has issued a yellow alert for the next 24 to 48 hours, warning of scattered thunderstorms and strong winds. Meteorologists note that such weather is common in early June, when pre-monsoon activity begins to strengthen across northern India.
