Heavy rain hit parts of Delhi-NCR on Friday evening after the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an orange alert for Delhi and a yellow alert for nearby areas such as Gurgaon, Faridabad, Hisar, and other NCR regions. The rain on Friday evening brought relief from the heat, lowering temperatures by

7-10 degrees in many areas. Jafarpur recorded a drop of 8.6°C, and Narayana saw the highest fall of 10.1°C. Areas like Pragati Maidan, Pitampura, Jharoda Kalan, and Najafgarh also experienced cooler weather.
Delhi Rain Alert
At first, IMD had given a yellow alert, but it was later upgraded to an orange alert as weather conditions worsened. The department said that moderate to heavy rain, along with light thunderstorms and lightning, is likely to continue across Delhi and the NCR. According to IMD's latest update, Delhi may see a short period of unstable weather, followed by a week of rising temperatures. For April 18, the forecast suggests partly cloudy skies.
Orange Alert in Delhi NCR Region
The orange alert for Delhi warned of heavy rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds. In NCR areas, Gautam Buddha Nagar, Hapur, Ghaziabad, and Baghpat were also placed under an orange alert. Meanwhile, several districts in Uttar Pradesh, including Meerut, Muzaffarnagar, Saharanpur, Bijnor, and Hathras, were given a yellow alert. In Haryana, places like Palwal, Gurgaon, Rewari, and Faridabad were also under a yellow alert, while Charkhi Dadri, Bhiwani, and Sonipat received an orange alert.
For Saturday, cloudy skies are expected in Delhi, with no warning issued so far. The maximum temperature may range from 40°C to 42°C, while the minimum may range from 20°C to 22°C.
However, this relief may not last long. IMD predicts that from April 20 to April 23, the weather will turn dry and hot again, with temperatures between 39°C and 42°C.
