Delhi Metro's Closed Stations: DMRC has Closed Several Metro Stations due to Security Reasons Amid the Protest

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has temporarily closed several metro stations in the national capital due to security concerns amid ongoing protests in central Delhi. Initially, DMRC announced the closure of Janpath, Rajiv Chowk, Patel Chowk, and Central Secretariat metro stations until further notice. However, it clarified that interchange

facilities would continue to be available at Rajiv Chowk and Central Secretariat, allowing passengers to change trains without exiting the stations.

Delhi Metro's Closed Stations

Later, DMRC expanded the list of closed stations. The stations shut until further notice include Lok Kalyan Marg, Rajiv Chowk, Patel Chowk, Ramakrishna Ashram Marg, Barakhambha Road, Supreme Court, Seva Teerth, Janpath, Mandi House, Central Secretariat, ITO, Delhi Gate, Indraprastha, Khan Market, Jor Bagh, and Shivaji Stadium.

Large-Scale Protests Going on in Delhi

The closures come as large-scale protests continue in Delhi. Thousands of people gathered at Jantar Mantar, and a march towards Parliament reportedly ended in clashes between protesters and police. Several opposition parties, including the Congress, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), and Samajwadi Party (SP), have extended support to the demonstrations.

Political protests also intensified near the Prime Minister's residence at Lok Kalyan Marg. Senior Congress leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge, and Priyanka Gandhi, were detained during a protest outside the Prime Minister's residence.

During the ongoing Monsoon Session of Parliament, Congress MPs wore black clothes as a mark of protest. Congress leader Pawan Khera said the party was protesting over issues affecting students and criticised the government's handling of the situation. He said the party's protest was meant to show support for the country's youth.

Delhi Metro's Advisory for Commuters

DMRC has advised passengers to check the latest updates before travelling, as the closures will remain in effect until further instructions. Commuters are encouraged to use alternative routes or transport options where necessary. Metro services on other parts of the network are continuing, but passengers may experience changes depending on the security situation.
