Delhi Metro's Upgradation Work in Phases

The upgrade work is being done in three phases. In the first phase, 12 trains have already been modernised. In the second phase, 18 trains have been upgraded, and work on 9 more trains will begin soon, followed by another 9 trains. In Dthe third phase, 22 trains on the Blue Line will be refurbished by November 2027. So far, a total of 31 trains have already been upgraded.

Refurbishment Inclusion

The refurbishment includes improvements to both interiors and technical systems. Train interiors and driver cabins have been repainted to give a fresh look and fix wear and tear. Electrical panels have also been upgraded to improve performance and reliability.

Why is the Refurbishment Essential?

According to DMRC, this is part of a major mid-life refurbishment programme aimed at improving passenger safety, comfort, and overall travel experience. The oldest trains, known as RS-1 trains, are being fitted with modern systems to meet current standards and continue operating efficiently. After the upgrade, trains will have modern features like advanced passenger announcement systems, real-time information displays, CCTV cameras, and LCD route maps. These systems will help passengers update about routes, time, and station arrivals, and also allow communication during emergencies. As safety is a priority, new fire detection systems with smoke and heat sensors are being installed in all coaches. Old electrical components are being replaced with advanced ones for smooth & safer operations.

Moreover, mobile and laptop charging points are being added, making travel more convenient for passengers.
