Delhi Metro Magenta Line: Janakpuri West to Krishna Park Operations Begin; Check Fare, Schedule

On January 5, 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the latest extension of the Delhi Metro's Magenta Line, marking a major milestone in the city's metro network expansion under Phase IV. This newly opened section extends the Magenta Line from Janakpuri West to Krishna Park and officially began operations at 3 PM the same day.

Delhi Metro Janakpuri West-Krishna Park

The extended Magenta Line now spans around 40 kilometers, adding more connectivity options for Delhi's residents. This development is part of the broader Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) network, which now covers approximately 394.4 kilometers across 289 stations. Further expansion plans aim to extend the Magenta Line to R K Ashram Marg by 2026, significantly reducing travel times and improving accessibility.

Efficient Service Schedule

The new section of the Magenta Line has a train frequency of 16 minutes, ensuring a smooth and reliable service for passengers. This addition reflects the DMRC's commitment to efficient urban transportation as part of its ambitious Phase-IV project, which involves constructing 86 kilometers of new tracks across five corridors.

Ongoing Phase-IV Developments

Other significant projects under Phase IV include the construction of the Majlis Park to Maujpur and Aerocity to Tughlakabad corridors. Prime Minister Modi also laid the foundation stone for the 26.5-kilometer Rithala-Kundli corridor, which will connect rural and suburban areas in North and Northwest Delhi, including Sonipat.

Convenient and Affordable Travel

Trains on this new stretch operate daily from 5:30 AM to 11:30 PM, with fares starting at ₹10 and going up to ₹60 for distances over 32 kilometers. This fare structure is a cost-effective alternative to previous transfer-based journeys. For example, a trip from Janakpuri West to Krishna Park previously cost ₹50; now, it costs just ₹10.

Transforming Urban Mobility

DMRC officials emphasized that these projects will revolutionize urban mobility in Delhi. The expanded network will help reduce traffic congestion, provide environmentally friendly travel options, and make urban transportation more accessible and efficient for millions of commuters.

The Magenta Line extension is a step forward in reshaping Delhi's transportation infrastructure, enhancing convenience for daily commuters, and boosting the city's connectivity. As Phase IV projects progress, the Delhi Metro continues to play a vital role in transforming urban travel.
