Delhi Metro: CM Rekha Gupta Announced Free Travel for all Students for NEET UG Exam

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has announced free travel for all students appearing for the NEET UG 2026 re-examination on June 21. Under this initiative, candidates will be able to travel free of cost on all Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) buses across the national capital by showing their valid admit card.

Reason behind Delhi Metro's Initiatives

The Chief Minister said the decision was taken to ensure that students do not face transportation-related difficulties on an important day that could have a major impact on their future. The aim is to make travel easier and reduce stress for candidates appearing for the exam.

On May 29, Rekha Gupta shared the announcement on social media, stating that the Delhi government wants to support NEET aspirants and ensure that no student faces inconvenience while travelling to their examination centre. Students will only need to present their admit card to avail of the free bus service.

While many welcomed the move, the announcement also sparked discussion on social media. Several users pointed out that free travel on the Delhi Metro would have been more useful because a large number of students rely on metro services for daily travel. Some people argued that DTC buses often get delayed due to heavy traffic congestion, which could make it difficult for students to reach their exam centres on time.

Delhi Metro Commuters' Opinions

One user commented that students depending entirely on buses might risk being late for the exam and suggested that free metro travel would have been a better option. Others echoed similar views, saying that most candidates prefer the metro because it is faster, more reliable, and less affected by road traffic.

The plan of providing free travel for NEET candidates was first introduced by the government of Punjab. After requests from concerned parents, the Punjab government decided to offer free travel to NEET candidates on state-run buses on the re-exam day. Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said the decision was taken after students sought assistance. The initiative was supported by Arvind Kejriwal, who had interacted with NEET aspirants and heard their concerns regarding travel arrangements for the examination.
