Delhi is experiencing very high temperatures, with the city recording its hottest day of the season so far. The Safdarjung weather station, considered the main station for the city, reported a maximum temperature of 41.7°C. This is 4 degrees above the normal level and exceeds the earlier-season record of 41°C on April 17.

Delhi Heat Alert
In other parts of the city, the temperature was even higher. The Ridge station recorded 43°C, which is 4.6°C above normal. However, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has not officially declared a heatwave yet because at least two weather stations must meet the required conditions, and on this day, only the Ridge station qualified.
Yellow Alert in Delhi
The IMD has issued a yellow alert for Friday and Saturday, warning that temperatures may rise further. Heatwave-like conditions may occur in some areas. However, some relief is expected after Sunday, as there is a chance of thunderstorms and light rain between Sunday and Tuesday. This is due to a weather system over Rajasthan that may bring moisture to Delhi.
According to IMD, a heatwave is declared when the temperature is at least 4.5°C above normal and crosses 40°C, or when it reaches 45°C or more. Heatwaves in Delhi usually occur between April and early June. So far this year, no official heatwave days have been recorded. Night temperatures are also higher than usual, reaching 25.4°C, which is three degrees above normal. Over the weekend, minimum temperatures are expected to stay between 24°C and 27°C.
Delhi Rain Alert
Weather experts say Delhi will remain very hot for the next couple of days, with temperatures likely between 42°C and 44°C. Some areas may still experience heatwave conditions, though slight cooling is possible later with chances of rain.
