Residents of Delhi and the wider Delhi NCR are experiencing a steady rise in temperatures, and the coming days are expected to be even hotter. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), maximum temperatures may increase by another 2-3°C, making weather conditions more uncomfortable. However, there is a small

relief as light rainfall is expected in parts of Haryana and nearby areas in NCR on April 17 and 18.
Delhi Heat Alert
The IMD has also warned that the heat will intensify further from Thursday. The hottest part of the day will be between 1 PM and 3 PM, when the sun will be strongest and outdoor activities may become difficult. People are already feeling the rising heat, and the situation is likely to worsen over the next few days. Even though there is a slight chance of rain, heatwave-like conditions are expected to continue for some time. With temperatures rising further, daily life in Delhi and nearby regions may become more challenging. Residents may experience discomfort due to the extreme heat, with no major relief expected soon.
India to Receive Less Rainfall this Year
In another important update, the IMD has predicted that India may receive below-normal rainfall during the upcoming monsoon season due to the possible return of El Niño conditions in June, after a three-year hiatus. El Niño can weaken the southwest monsoon, which is very important for India's agriculture.
The IMD estimates that India may receive around 80 cm of rainfall between June and September, which is lower than the average of 87 cm. Rainfall is expected to be about 92% of the usual average, with some regions possibly receiving normal or slightly above-normal rain.
