The temperature in Delhi crossed the 40-degree mark on Wednesday, reaching a high of 40.7°C. This was about 3 degrees above the normal level and higher than Tuesday's 38.8°C. Among different areas, the Ridge station in north Delhi recorded the highest temperature at 42.1°C, while Ayanagar in southwest Delhi saw 41.4°C.

Delhi Heat Alert
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has updated its forecast and warned that heatwave conditions are likely to increase on Friday and Saturday. According to officials, the temperature is expected to rise gradually by 2-3 degrees over the next three days and then remain steady. However, maximum temperatures are predicted to remain above normal, or significantly above normal, for the next five days. The minimum temperature on Wednesday was 21.6°C, which is slightly below normal. However, it is expected to rise and may reach around 27°C by Sunday.
Delhi's Weather Update on Thursday
For Thursday, the temperature is expected to be between 41°C and 43°C. On Friday and Saturday, it may rise further to around 42°C to 44°C. A yellow alert has been issued; heatwave conditions may occur in some isolated areas.
As per IMD guidelines, a heatwave is declared when the maximum temperature reaches at least 40°C and is 4.5 degrees or more above normal. It is also considered a heatwave if the temperature touches 45°C, regardless of the normal level. So far, no heatwave days have been recorded this April. In comparison, April 2025 saw three heatwave days, while April 2022 had as many as 11.
