Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) woke up to a thick blanket of smog on Monday morning, following the celebration of Diwali. Despite the Supreme Court's ban on firecrackers, the ban was violated by many, leading to a surge in air pollution levels. This increase in pollution comes as a shock as Delhi had experienced its cleanest air on Diwali for the past eight years.

Anand Vihar Records Highest Pollution Levels
Among all areas in Delhi, Anand Vihar recorded the highest level of air pollution with its Air Quality Index (AQI) touching a 'hazardous' 849 at 7 am, as per a real-time air quality index by aqicn. However, the Central Pollution Control Board reported the air quality of Anand Vihar as 'very poor' with an AQI of 301 at the same time.

Gopal Rai Calls for Meeting as AQI Worsens
The meeting is expected to bring together experts, policymakers, and stakeholders to discuss and devise strategies to tackle the worsening air pollution in the city. The focus will be on finding immediate and long-term solutions to reduce pollution levels and improve the overall air quality in Delhi.
Measures such as stricter enforcement of pollution control norms, promoting cleaner fuels, increasing green cover, and promoting public transportation are likely to be discussed. The aim is to come up with a comprehensive plan that can effectively address the issue and provide relief to the residents of Delhi, who have been suffering from the adverse health effects of air pollution.

In light of the current air pollution crisis, it is essential for the citizens of Delhi and NCR to take immediate steps to mitigate the impact and prevent further deterioration of air quality. Strict adherence to the Supreme Court's ban on firecrackers during festival seasons and other pollution control measures are imperative. It is high time that we realize the importance of clean air and work together to conserve our environment for a healthier and safer future.
