If you're planning a trip to Mumbai or nearby cities in Maharashtra, it's important to stay updated on the current health situation. Mumbai is facing a fresh rise in COVID-19 cases, with a noticeable jump since April 2025. Travelers are advised to take precautions, especially if they are elderly or have health conditions. While the situation is under control, a little caution can go a long way in keeping your journey safe.

COVID-19 Cases Increase in Mumbai
Mumbai has recorded 411 COVID-19 cases since January 2025. The first three months of the year saw very few cases-one case each in January and February, and none in March. However, cases increased slowly to four in April and then jumped sharply to 405 in May. Mumbai now has the highest number of cases in the state.
Across Maharashtra, 681 people have tested positive for COVID-19 since January, with 84 new cases recently. There are currently 467 active cases. While Mumbai remains the major hotspot, cities like Pune and Thane are also reporting new cases. Pune has recorded 19 new cases, while Thane has 17.
Health Officials Share Updates
Dr. Daksha Shah, the head of the BMC health department, said that while the rise in cases is worrying, the situation is being managed well. Most patients have only mild symptoms and are being treated in private hospitals. She urged elderly people and those with existing health problems to avoid going out unless necessary.
Dr. Shah said, "The situation is under control. We are watching over it. Those who are reported positive have very mild symptoms and can recover easily. There is no need to panic."
Pink Army Steps Up Cleanliness Efforts
To stop the virus from spreading, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has introduced the Pink Army. This team includes 9,600 women conservancy workers who are working hard to keep Mumbai clean. Their work helps reduce the chances of the virus spreading through dirty public places.
Statewide Testing and COVID-19 Deaths
The health department has done over 10,000 antigen tests to catch and manage the infection early. So far, seven people in Maharashtra have died from COVID-19 since January. Most of them had other serious health conditions.
Advice for Travelers
If you're visiting Mumbai, Pune, or Thane, consider wearing a mask in crowded places and using hand sanitizer. Stay away from crowded areas if you have health issues or are elderly. Keep an eye on local news for any changes or safety instructions.
By staying careful and informed, you can enjoy your trip while staying safe.
