next year and will change the way people travel through some of the city's most congested areas.

East-West Metro Corridor Lucknow

The 11.2 km corridor was approved on August 12, 2025, and passes through neighbourhoods where narrow roads run between homes, busy shops, and heavy traffic. As the space is limited in these areas, planners must design a modern metro system that fits into these tight surroundings without disturbing daily life.

Corridor's Geography

According to officials from the Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC), construction will begin in phases starting in February next year. They explained that the corridor's tight geography affects every aspect of the plan, including station entrances and tunnel paths. Surveys and digital mapping are helping identify small available spaces where people want better transport but cannot sacrifice shopfronts or footpaths. UPMRC officials also mentioned that the project is being designed around people's needs and how they use the space. Every entry point and underground stretch has to be planned carefully to suit the local environment.

Land Plan of the Corridor

The land plan for the corridor is very detailed, as small areas such as 823 sq m at Charbagh and 365 sq m at Gautam Buddha Marg have been acquired for station access. Larger plots, such as over 18,000 sq m near Chowk Crossing and 18 hectares near Hardoi Road for the depot, provide rare open space in Old Lucknow. Temporary land, like 12 hectares near Sitapur Road for a casting yard and 61 hectares for future property development, will support construction and revenue.

Due to space limitations, the line will begin with three-coach trains, and stations will be compact. Moreover, advanced construction methods like Tunnel Boring Machines and precast segments will be used to reduce. With land secured and tenders being prepared, the East-West Corridor is ready to move forward within the city's narrowest zones.
