Beginning on Saturday 29th April 2023, travelers visiting China will no longer be required to present a negative PCR test result, further relaxing China's "zero-COVID" restrictions.
An alternative is to present a negative antigen test result obtained within 48 hours after boarding, according to Mao Ning, a spokesman for the Chinese Foreign Ministry. China has implemented a variety of anti-virus measures over the past three years to attempt and eradicate the virus from society, including lockdowns and frequent mass testing. And for this China strictly adopted zero covid policy.
In an effort to boost tourism, the nation resumed issuing all types of visas last month so that people can travel back to China to witness the ancient gems it has like the great wall of China. However, it has maintained the expensive necessity of PCR testing for travelers arriving from specific countries, which was a significant barrier to their desire to travel to China as by this time almost all countries has lifted the regulations but China remained the same.

The government abruptly eased back its harsh regulations in December and then took a significant step towards lifting the quarantine regulation in early January, however, after the laws damaged the economy and caused protests.
From April 29, travelers can instead present negative quick antigen test results as mentioned earlier, and airlines won't be compelled to verify the proof, according to Mao Ning.
Current Covid situation in China:
The number of COVID cases has recently increased slightly, according to a few Shanghai-area medical institutes, but the number of daily new cases has remained low.

The chance of personal infection continues, but there won't be a concentrated infection spike like the wave before it. Most of the symptoms are moderate, often accompanied by a fever, as seen by the recent rise in new infections. The elderly and other susceptible groups should seek medical attention as soon as possible if they have respiratory symptoms like fever, according to experts.
The Chinese Centre for Disease Control & Prevention reports that the number of persons who tested positive on PCR tests increased to 1.7% on April 20. That increased from 1.3% the previous week and 0.7% three weeks prior.
Although the severity of the most recent wave of cases is unknown, experts think it is unlikely to have a significant impact on the nation's economic recovery in the near future.
