Water Lodging in Many Areas
The impact of the rains on daily life has been noticeable, with a decline in the number of people using the roads in both the city and its suburbs, attributed to the ongoing thunderstorms and showers. Many areas including Ashok Nagar, Ekkaduthangal, and West Mambalamare facing water lodging issue.
Well the administration is on war foot to save the people. Despite the adverse weather conditions, the Greater Chennai Corporation has taken proactive measures to mitigate the effects of waterlogging. Efforts to drain accumulated water into stormwater drains are underway, particularly in areas where waterlogging has been reported. Furthermore, the corporation has made a helpline number, 1913, available for residents seeking assistance during this period.

Trains, Flights Are Unaffected Yet
Despite the challenging circumstances, flight and train services, including the Metro Rail operations, have remained unaffected. In a precautionary move, residents of flood-prone areas such as Ram Nagar in Madipakkam have taken measures to safeguard their vehicles by parking them on the nearby Velachery bridge, a crucial part of south Chennai. Some individuals have even relocated to hotels to avoid the brunt of the flooding.
The efforts to manage the situation extend beyond immediate responses to the rainfall. The Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin personally visited several areas, including the Narayanapuram lake near Velachery, to oversee the effectiveness of advance desilting work that facilitates the drainage of surplus rainwater into channels. His inspection also included a visit to the integrated command and control centre of the Chennai Corporation at the Ripon Building, where he reviewed ongoing operations to address the challenges posed by the heavy rains.
Subways Are Cleaned
The heavy downpour causing disruptions in some parts of the city. The Chennai Corporation has managed to prevent water stagnation in subways, thanks to preemptive maintenance work. Moreover, fallen trees that could have exacerbated the situation were swiftly cleared. The Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, M.K. Stalin, has also been actively involved, reviewing the preparedness of various authorities to handle the potential fallout from the forecasted heavy rains. He has instructed that teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and Tamil Nadu Disaster Response Force be pre-positioned in areas expected to bear the brunt of the adverse weather.
