The Chennai Unified Metropolitan Transport Authority (CUMTA) is conducting trial runs for its innovative mobile app, Anna Ride Booking. This app aims to simplify city travel by integrating multiple transport options into a single platform. Users can plan their journeys across Chennai using one ticket, making commuting more efficient and cost-effective.
Anna Ride Booking is designed to offer route suggestions based on the user's starting point and destination. It combines various modes of transport such as Metro Rail, MTC buses, autorickshaws, and Namma Yatri cabs. Commuters simply input their journey details, select preferred transport modes, and pay through the app. A QR code is generated for scanning on different services.
Current Trials and Future Expansion
Currently, trials are being conducted on MTC buses and Metro Rail. CUMTA plans to expand this to include suburban and MRTS train services soon. While Indian Railways has given initial approval, a formal agreement is anticipated by August. Efforts are also underway with MTC to integrate accurate vehicle tracking and live timings into the app.
Local commuters have expressed optimism about the app's potential benefits. S. Ramesh from Mogappair shared his thoughts: "People don't know the exact bus timings now. If this app solves that, it'll help thousands, especially newcomers unfamiliar with train or bus timings."

The app's launch was delayed but is now set for the end of July. Once operational, it promises to transform how residents navigate Chennai's public transport system. The integration of real-time data aims to reduce waiting times and improve travel planning for users.
