Chennai: Singaperumal Koil Railway Flyover Opens After 16 Years, Easing Traffic Woes

After 16 long years of construction, the railway flyover at Singaperumal Koil near Chengalpattu is finally ready for use. The flyover opens today, February 19, bringing great joy to local residents and daily commuters. The completion of this long-awaited project marks a major improvement in travel for thousands of people who cross this area every day. The Highways Department had earlier planned to complete the project by December 2024, but the work has now been finished ahead of that deadline.

A Major Relief for Commuters

Singaperumal Koil and the surrounding area are home to more than 30 villages. Every day, thousands of people travel through this busy region for work, school, and other needs. Until now, traffic congestion was a major problem on the National Highway, often leading to long delays. Vehicles were frequently stuck in traffic jams stretching up to 2 kilometers, making travel slow and difficult.

With the new flyover in place, commuters can now expect a smoother and faster journey. The flyover is expected to ease the heavy traffic that was previously a daily challenge for motorists.

A Solution to Longstanding Traffic Problems

The Singaperumal Koil-Sriperumbudur Road is one of the most important roads in the area, carrying heavy traffic every day. Many vehicles also travel towards the Oragadam SIPCOT via Singaperumal Koil Road. The presence of a railway crossing in the area made the traffic situation even worse. The crossing remained closed for long periods during peak hours to allow express trains to pass, leading to further delays and long queues on the highway.

With the flyover now open, vehicles can move without interruption, reducing congestion and waiting times. This will make travel more convenient for people living in the area and those passing through.

A Long-Awaited Development

The completion of the railway flyover is a major milestone for the region. Local residents have waited for this moment for many years, showing great patience despite the long delays in construction. Now, as the first vehicles start using the overpass, the hope is that it will bring lasting improvements to traffic flow and make daily travel much easier.

The opening of this flyover marks a new beginning for commuters, bringing an end to years of struggle with traffic congestion. The people of Singaperumal Koil can now look forward to a smoother and more efficient travel experience.
