Ten stations to ease daily travel

The route between Porur Junction and Poonamallee Bypass includes ten new stations. This stretch is expected to be a big relief for daily commuters, especially those living in busy and traffic-heavy areas. The testing is being done from the Poonamallee Metro Depot, which is the main hub for this part of the metro line.

In the coming days, officials will also test the signalling systems. These tests are important to make sure that trains run smoothly and safely once the service starts for the public.

Testing and what comes next

According to Managing Director of CMRL, MA Siddique, the first trial run will start at a speed of 20-25 km/h and will later increase to 70-80 km/h as work progresses. He mentioned that six trains are currently undergoing trial runs. In the next phase, testing of the signalling system will also begin.

He said that if everything goes well, this part of the metro will be ready for use by the end of December. He also added that the next metro line will connect Porur to Vadapalani and Power House. After that, work will continue on stations at Porur, Alapakkam, and the Chennai Trade Centre.

Improving life in the city

Stage 1 of this metro stretch includes several tests to improve passenger experience and convenience. CMRL's main aim is to get more people to use public transport. This can help reduce traffic jams and improve air quality in the city. The new metro lines are part of a bigger plan to expand Chennai's metro network in the coming years.

Driverless metro trains by 2027

In another exciting update, CMRL has announced that it plans to launch driverless metro trains by the year 2027. This is part of their plan to modernise the metro system and make it more efficient for the growing number of people living in Chennai.

With faster trains, better connections, and modern technology, Chennai Metro is moving towards a brighter and cleaner future.
